Overall Personality:
To both those who know Amycus personally and to those who know him only from the sidelines believe Amycus to be extremely unstable. He suffers from extreme mood swings going from calm to intense anger or sadness in under two seconds flat and in short can be explained by calling him a complete sociopath. He takes extreme pleasure in killing things slowly and experimenting with the Dark Arts to come up with new and fascinating spells to use on his victims. He completely lacks any semblance of a conscious and has extremely sadistic tenancies.
His personality is nothing short of obsessive. He has a complete and obsessive love for his younger sister Alecto. He would do anything for her including killing himself if she ever asked it of him. Along with his mood swings comes a temper to rival others. He is quick to jump to conclusions and once angered will have nothing to do with the other side of the story. His mind is made up and that's all there is to it. He is manipulative and conniving, enjoying the way other's wills bend towards his when he wants them to. He takes a great amount of pleasure in controlling people (especially Alecto) and using them for what he wants so he may simply throw them away.
Amycus takes pleasure in physical strength as well as magical strength and makes a point to keep both his dueling abilities and his body in the best condition. He is cunning, sly and cut-throat, stopping at nothing until his mission is complete. He also tends to be anal retentive and needs every single item or thing to have it's place. He needs the paperwork to be in order, he needs to understand why things work the way they do and he needs people to follow his rules. He becomes very angry when his things are out of place or broken.

Amycus doesn't speak to his parents very often anymore. They grew a part over the years. Amycus considered Medea to be a waste of space and Amycus the first has dared to touch his little sister. They don't exactly get along.
History:
Amycus grew up the son and heir to the Carrow name and a small fortune which meant he was extremely spoiled. While the Carrow's didn't have endless amounts of money to spend on the boy, they found every way to make sure he got exactly what he wanted. They even obliged when he told his parents he was bored and wanted a baby brother when he was three. By the time Amycus was four years old his mother was pregnant and he eagerly awaited the day his little brother would arrive. When Alecto was born Amycus was extremely disappointed and threw a temper tantrum blaming his mother for giving him a little sister instead of brother. He saw the baby as a complete nuisance and detested the way she cried through the night. So much so that when Alecto was only 9 months old he drug her to the 3rd story window and tried to kick her off the edge.
As Amycus grew older he discovered that he could do things with his mind. He started his experiments on small insects at first. He would concentrate very hard on causing it an immense amount of pain and he swore he could hear them scream. Years passed and Amycus had moved on to using his 'mind magic' on small critters and eventually local muggles and his baby sister Alecto. She became his most prized possession and favorite test subject. That was when Amycus started to take an intense liking to Alecto and after a few years of using her finally allowed her to partake in the fun. They became inseparable at that point forward and Amycus swore to kill anyone who would dare hurt her.
When his Hogwarts letter came Amycus was eager to leave, but incredibly angered at the fact he couldn't bring Alecto along with him. He became taciturn and distant in the months following the letter and eventually left the Carrow's home without so much as a goodbye to her. He insisted that his parents leave her home with the governess instead of coming along to the train station. As soon as the sorting hat fell on Amycus' head it screamed out "Slytherin" and the eleven year old was off to a life inside the castle's dungeons.
Amycus had an easy enough time making friends in Slytherin. His dorm mates were just as conniving and manipulative as he was, but they took a special liking to Amycus because he was exceedingly creepy and sadistic. They swore he didn't care if he got kicked out of Hogwarts and in reality it was true. It's still a mystery how he managed to make it all the way through. He did well in Defense Against the Dark Arts, knowing that he would need to know how the spells worked if he was planning to be on the other side of them. He also took a special liking to Transfiguration and Charms, but spent most of his time doodling in his class books with spells of his own, ones he would spend hours upon hours working on.
Amycus' father had promised him a meeting with Voldemort himself just before Amycus' 6th year. Amycus was taken with Voldemort's philosophy when he met Him and the man Himself. So much so that he didn't hesitate in taking the dark mark. He entered his 6th year with a new swagger to his step and a great big attitude to boot. He often openly bragged about meeting Voldemort, but never dared show anyone his dark mark. Amycus graduated Hogwarts with only 3 NEWTs, but he didn't care. He didn't need great marks to go where he was going and it certainly helped that his family was great friends with the Blacks who practically ran the wizarding world at that point.
When Amycus realized at the end of the summer that Alecto would be going back to Hogwarts without him he seized the opportunity to lay claim to her. He entered her bedroom late one night and well.. let's not get into gory details here, but he took her virginity. It was his last farewell to his sister. He knew that he could not watch over her in Hogwarts as he had done previously.
It only took Amycus three years to get where he wanted to be within the Ministry. By the time he was 21 he had found himself a spot in the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures acting as a stand-in Executioner and Member of the Committee for the Disposal of Dangerous Creatures. The job fit him well as he absolutely loved bringing pain to creatures and he took on a vicious role within the Committee to make sure the creatures brought to them would end up dead.
Life seemed perfect after landing his dream job within the Ministry. Alecto was his, they found and bought a house together and they seemed untouchable.
